Frost by RevelationSpace Frost by RevelationSpace
Taken this morning during sunrise. It's frost outside.

I keep going back and forth between the version with the pole in the middle edited out, and this version.

Everyone seems to think this version is okay, so I'm uploading it.

*Edit*
Changed the aspect ratio.

You managed to take something simple and make it beautiful, a job well done :)

I like this. This may be one time where a utility pole actually adds something to an image.

I have no problem with the pole, to be honest. If there were something a little more interesting in the distance then it might be worth removing, but the interesting part is really the foreground scene.

If anything I’d consider cropping in a little on the bottom to remove a little of the shadowed area and keep the extreme foreground interesting.

If you wanted, you could even try cropping it square: remove the little bit of clear sky at the top and some of the monotonous shadow at the bottom.

Woops, I meant the left hand side.

Didn’t notice anything at all. Hallmark of a good retoucher, my friend.

I had a look at the thumbnails (I always find it very helpful to see a very small version of a photo, for some reason) and decided that you were right. The dark shadowy area at the bottom of the photo wasn't really adding anything, so it's better without it.

I'm glad nobody has noticed the rather complicated edit I did on the right hand side, makes it worth the time I spent making it look right.

I know what you mean about square crops, but it seems to work in this case. The focal point is still off-centre, so there’s still some visual tension going on, and it definitely makes for a more uniform frame, methinks.
